Everton u21 midfielder Jenson Metcalfe made his professional debut after joining Chesterfield on loan and has already earned rave reviews in a 10-minute cameo.

Chesterfield lost the game 1-0 against Gillingham with a man sent off for either side and Metcalfe made his debut in the 80th minute while the League Two side were chasing the game. Despite being unable to help his team to a point fans of the club were impressed.

One fans said: “A couple of killer touches and yes a midfielder that shoots, hope he ends up starting soon.”

Another labelled him a ‘quality player’, while a third said: “He is class. Start him.”

It’s a promising start to his Chesterfield loan after he was heavily involved in Everton’s pre season. He played the first half against Sligo on the right wing before making an appearance against Preston North End in his more familiar midfielder position, where his range of passing and technique on the ball was especially promising. Metcalfe has previously won the academy player of the season at Everton.

Elsewhere Harry Tyrer was on the bench for Blackpool in their 2-2 draw with Wycombe. Blackpool’s goalkeeper made a big error in failing to keep out the second and it could mean some game time for Tyrer sooner rather than later.

Billy Crellin at Accrington Stanley was only signed on Friday and did not appear in the squad and Francis Okoronkwo at Salford City could be involved when they play MK Dons on Monday night. Finally, Eli Campbell made his Ross County debut as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen.

At the club Everton’s u21s were thrashed by Manchester City 5-0. The youngsters were 3-0 down before Charlie Whitaker was sent off at the end of the first half. City’s strong team was no match for an Everton side missing a number of key players after several loan deals.

Roman Dixon and Harrison Armstrong both played in the game.

Everton’s u18s also suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Manchester City, losing 4-0 and having midfielder Matos sent off to complete a poor weekend for the club on the pitch. Graham and Loney, two strikers brought in during the summer, failed to get on the scoresheet after both scored in a 4-2 victory over Southampton last time out.

The match was notable for the appearance of Everton goalkeeper Lukjanciks, who is an England youth international and has been attracting interest from opponents Manchester City in recent months.
