Everton’s small group of loan players suffered mixed fortunes over the last weekend.
While Harrison Armstrong continues to be used sparingly by Preston, he did impress off the bench as the side continues to impress in the Championship.
There are also updates on Martin Sherif’s injury recovery and a couple of young goalkeepers playing their first games in senior football.
Harrison Armstrong
Armstrong was a 63rd minute substitute for Preston in their 0-0 draw with Bristol City. It leaves Preston, who were tipped for a relegation battle by some, in sixth place in the table.
Armstrong has been brought on as a substitute three games in a row and as a result has not yet had a chance to settle. However, some fans are already pointing out his ball-playing ability.
One said: “I thought we created far more and got more possession with Armstrong on.”
Another added: “He was absolute quality when he came on today. He was head and shoulders above McCann and Whiteman, even though he had a fraction of their minutes on the pitch.”
Armstrong will now hope he can break in to the first team for upcoming games.
Francis Okoronkwo
Okoronkwo’s Lincoln City thrashed Peterborough 3-0 to move up to third in League One. However, the striker failed to get off the bench and is finding his game time limited.
He has played just 129 minutes of League One football this season and is yet to register a goal.
Martin Sherif
The young striker scored on his Rotherham debut but has missed three weeks with a hamstring injury. Last week he travelled back to Everton to be assessed and his manager has confirmed he is close to a return.
The side’s 2-1 defeat to Mansfield came too early for Sherif but he is highly rated at the club.
The Rotherham Advertiser said: “The teenager, who marked his debut with a goal, has been sorely missed in the last four games since he damaged his hamstring in only his third outing more than three weeks ago.
“The centre-forward has gone through his rehabilitation with the Millers and was heading to parent club Everton this morning for final confirmation that his recovery is complete.”
Tyler Onyango
Onyango played all 90 minutes as Stockport drew with Reading 1-1 in League One. Onyango played on the right side of a five-man back line.
He assisted Kyle Wooton’s 22nd minute goal in his third appearance for the club. He headed the ball across goal to set up Wooton in an impressive display.
Isaac Heath
Isaac Heath has been a major hit with Accrington Stanley since signing on loan. The winger scored minutes into his debut and set up a goal last time out.
He played the full 90 minutes as Stanley were beaten 3-1 by Walsall. Heath had a shot saved by the Walsall keeper in the first half but was unable to prevent the loss.
Accrington are 19th in the table and Heath has played four games so far, with one assist to his name.
Fraser Barnsley
Fraser Barnsley was fresh off a man of the match performance in his second game when he lined up to take on Buxton in the FA Cup for his new club, Marine.
Despite a good early save he was on the receiving end of a 3-2 defeat in a game that saw four penalties awarded – three for Marine and one for the visitors. He was not at fault for any of the goals but will be unhappy with his side’s poor defending.
Goodness Gospel-Eze
Burscough beat Daisy Hill on penalties in the Macron Cup and Gospel-Eze was the hero after saving two penalties in the resulting shoot out.
The match finished 0-0 and Gospel-Eze was largely untroubled against the team from the division below. He stepped up in the penalty shootout to guide the Lancashire side through.
