Everton’s academy revamp is underway and the club has launched a search for a Head of Academy Goalkeeping and a Goalkeeping Coach.
The move comes after Carl Darlington, who previous spent 17 years in the Wales FA setup, was named as interm Head of Academy Coaching and he has made his first move to overhaul the dated Everton academy system.
The club is looking for a Head of Academy Goalkeeping to replace David Lucas, who was promoted to first team coaching duties at the request of Jordan Pickford. Lucas’ move to the first team means the academy needs a new goalkeeping expert in place and the club will support the new role with a new coach.
The role says: “We are excited to be looking for an ambitious, motivated, and innovated Head of Academy Goalkeeping, supporting the Club Pathway Mission to produce Academy Graduates for Everton FC and ensure positive outcomes for all our people.”
The job is tasked with “overall management, development and coaching of the Academy Goalkeepers, in line with the Coaching philosophy, vision and values of the Academy and the Club as a whole.”
The job will be busy. Reports suggest Everton have bolstered their academy goalkeeping ranks with Liverpool’s highly-rated England u15 goalkeeper Ruben Savvas. It also boasts George Pickford, who impressed with a match winning performance in the u21 derby last season.
Douglass Lukjanciks, who was linked with a sensational £10m move to Manchester City before signing a new Everton contract, is expected to move into u21 contention this season, while Goodness Gospel-Eze and Seve Patrick are the latest u18 scholars at the club.
