Everton to revamp ‘Advanced Talent Program’ as academy overhaul continues

Stephen Hurrell, August 11, 2025

Everton have revealed plans that will help talented academy players progress to the first team.

The club is recruiting for a coach to lead its Advanced Talent coaching program as it continues to overhaul an academy that has been neglected by previous regimes.

Everton have not confirmed if they have reverted the academy back to full time after previous owner Farhad Moshiri’s cuts led to a hybrid model being implemented, which severely restricted Everton’s academy recruitment and time spent with talented young players.

However it has confirmed a new role will be introduced to help develop players in the academy system and prepare them for older age groups.

The job specification says the role is: “Supporting the Club Pathway Mission to discover and develop exceptional talent to integrate into the Academy groups.”

The role also includes creating positive relationships with parents, organising training programmes and games to help players develop individually, and supporting player development and player experience within the academy.

The move is designed to help recruit and retain talented players and stop talent drain to the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, who have both aggressively targeted Everton’s academy players in recent years.

The pre-scholar academy group includes a number of young players who are rated highly at the club. Last season 15-year-old Jon Nsangou made his u18s debut and later scored a hat trick for the side. Fellow England youth international Jake Doughty has also been tipped for a full scholarship in a talented group and Everton will hope improvements to the academy will convince them to sign up as 2026 scholars next season.

The new role is the second major coaching search launched by the club in recent weeks focused on progression through the academy. The club is also recruiting for a coach to help support progression from u21 level to the first team with an ‘Individual Player Development Lead’.
