Everton fan group the 1878s have confirmed the first ever banner and flag display of the season will take place against Arsenal on 20 December.
The group was responsible for the stunning displays at Goodison Park that saw iconic Everton banners displayed before kick off.
They included the famous ‘We Built This City’ banner before the Merseyside derby and recreations of the ‘Everton are Magic’ and Littlewoods Clock banners.
The group was expected to bring the displays to Hill Dickinson Stadium this season but the size of the imposing 14,000-capacity South Stand meant the group has had to raise funds to create more flags and banners to fill the stand.
A major fundraising effort is still ongoing but the group has now confirmed the first display will take place before the visit of Arsenal on Saturday 20 December. The game is set to kick off at 8pm after being moved to accommodate Arsenal’s fixture pileup and the evening time kick off is set to lend itself to a fantastic atmosphere at the stadium.
The group said: “Our first display at our new home will be under the lights versus Arsenal on the 20th December. Thank you to Everton and to everyone who has donated for making this possible!
“We will be looking for volunteers to help in the Upper and Lower South stand on the night. Full details/instructions will be given at a later date but for now please DM us and let us know if you are available to help. Let’s make it feel like Home.”
Over the summer the group announced future banners would be designed to celebrate Everton’s current players as they seek to make new history at the stadium.
