Everton fans can exploit Stake loophole on 2025/26 kits

Stephen Hurrell, May 21, 2025

Everton have named Stake as a gambling partner for the new season as part of a new Premier League ruling.

The club has listed Stake as the club’s only gambling sponsor in the latest Premier League Central Register of Club Gambling Related Agreements, which clubs agreed to update once a year as part of a new gambling code of conduct introduced last year.

It means Everton will almost certainly be using Stake on the front of the team’s kit for the first season at Bramley Moore Stadium despite the brand’s unpopularity with fans and its recent ban from operating in the UK.

However, the code also has a hidden clause that means Everton are required to sell next season’s shirt in adult sizes without the gambling sponsor on the front if they request it.

Clause 3.5.2 of the code says all clubs are tasked with: “Ensuring that mechanisms exist to enable supporters to have the ability to purchase adult replica kits that do not include gambling sponsorship logos, in the event that they are not otherwise available for purchase.”

It means Everton are required by the rules to supply replica shirts without Stake sponsorship for fans. The club was accused of not adhering to this rule last season.

If Everton refuse to sell shirts without the Stake logo fans can complain directly to the club or the Premier League and the club is required to respond within 12 weeks. If fans are still unhappy they can complain to the Independent Football Ombudsman (IFO) to escalate the complaint.

Stake, a predatory gambling company, has been banned from operating in the UK by the gambling commission after a number of publicity stunts including one involving a porn star advertising the brand outside a UK university.

As a result of the ruling Everton are not allowed to display Stake advertising on UK-facing sections of their website but they are still allowed to wear the Stake logo on their football shirts. Children’s shirts are not allowed to feature the Stake logo and Stake is banned from appearing at any community events aimed at children or vulnerable people.

From the 2026/27 season gambling sponsors are banned from Premier League shirts, meaning Everton only have one more year of the deeply unpopular Stake sponsor.

In the published list of betting sponsors Everton have the joint-least amount of gambling partners with just Stake. Nottingham Forest top the list with seven different betting sponsors. You can see the list here.
