Everton include six promising youngsters in squad number announcement

Everton have revealed their 2024/25 squad numbers and a host of promising young players have been handed a number.

Midfielders Jenson Metcalfe and Harrison Armstrong have both been handed a number for the new season, while Roman Dixon, Eli Campbell, Reece Welch and Francis Okoronkwo are all allocated a number. Interestingly, currently injured Stanley Mills has not been included in the list as he continues his recovery. Last year he was included before being sent out on loan.

Last year only Mills, Lewis Warrington and Lewis Dobbin were given numbers in September, with the likes of Mackenzie Hunt being added later as they became involved in match day squads.

The squad number list is no indication of playing time and some of the youngsters included may be loaned out before the transfer deadline. However, with more youngsters named than last year it could also indicate that first team opportunities are available for those who impress.

The biggest change is a new number for Portuguese striker Youssef Chermiti, who moves from number 28 to number 17 for the new season. Meanwhile, Amadou Onana’s number eight shirt is still unclaimed and midfield replacement Tim Ireogbunam takes the number 42 he wore during pre season.

New signings Illman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom take number 10 and number 29 respectively, the former replacing loanee Ajnaut Danjuma.

There is no number of Dele Alli, who is only training with the club and has not signed a contract, although his previous number 20 is still unclaimed. There is also a gap at number 13, usually a number used for the reserve keeper, as Joao Virginia retains number 12. Neal Maupay originally wore number 13 but has claimed number 21 for the new season.

There are still no takers for the number 3 with Mykolenko sticking with number 19, highlighting Everton’s potential paucity of options at left back this season.
