Everton have filed a trademark for the name The Prince Rupert, which was one of the options when fans were asked to name a new bar at Bramley Moore Stadium.
The club has filed a trademark application for the name and it could be a hint the results of the vote are in.
Prince Rupert’s Tower is the name of the ‘lock up’ in Everton that appears on the club’s crest and if it did win the vote it beat names including Toffee Tavern, The Royle Oak, Eddie Cavanagh’s, The Southall Arms and the Giants Taproom.
It will be a blow to some fans who wanted Everton’s best ever goalkeeper, Neville Southall, to finally be honoured by the club. Southall is one of the club’s greatest players and has been treated badly in the past after speaking out about previous regimes.
The new Prince Rupert bars is described as: “the vibrant, fan-focused multi-bar area within the new stadium, the pub will become a key part of the matchday experience for supporters with a membership or matchday access to the destination situated on Level 3. The pub itself will offer a relaxed, social atmosphere steeped in the heritage and culture of the Club.”
Everton have already named the majority of bars at Bramley Moore. They include the Kendall Social, Blue Line, Domingo’s, Beyond, Est1878, Dixie’s Sports Bar, The Queen’s Head, The Arch, Boa Vista, Dock on 1 and The Merchant.
