The international break will take place next week after Everton’s game against West Ham at Goodison Park and it gives some of Everton’s players a chance to impress on the world stage.
We take a look at the players who have been called up and those who have missed out.
Senior players Jesper Lindstrom has been included in the Denmark squad for the Nations League quarter final games against Portugal. The home leg will be on 20 March and Denmark travel to Portugal on 23 March. He has benefited from the absence of Yussuf Poulsen, Kasper Dolberg, and Alexander Bah and will be hoping to get some minutes in the games.
In-form defender Jake O’Brien has been called up by new Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson for the Nations League ties against Bulgaria. The away leg will be on Thursday 20 March and the return fixture will be on Sunday 23 March. O’Brien has been left out of previous squads but has secured a deserved call-up after being in superb form for Everton under David Moyes.
The good news is that Hallgrímsson has not repeated the mistakes of previous Ireland managers and has allowed Seamus Coleman to stay at Everton to continue his recovery from injury.
England’s squad announcement will take place on Friday. Thomas Tuchel’s first squad will likely include Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite is one of 55 players who has had a phone conversation with Tuchel in the run up to the announcement.
Finally in Europe, Vitaly Mykolenko’s Ukraine will face off against Orel Mangala’s Belgium (although Mangala will be out with injury) in a two-legged Nations League tie.
Elsewhere Idrissa Gana Gueye has been called up by Senegal for World Cup qualifiers against Sudan and Togo. The former are two points ahead of Senegal in the Group B table so it will be a crunch match for Gana. Senegal are without the injured Illiman Ndiaye, who will stay with Everton.
Beto in the World Cup? Yes please. He will travel to relatively new international side Guinea-Bissau to take on Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso. They are second in the Group A table, four points behind Egypt and a win over third place Burkina Faso would be a huge result for the minnows. They will need to be one of the four best group runners up to make the second round.
Mali will also play World Cup qualifiers but no information on Abdoulaye Doucoure’s involvement in the squad at the time of writing.
International u21 call ups
There is big news for Omari Benjamin as he has the chance to make his Wales u21 debut. The squad will travel to Spain to play friendlies against Andorra and Spain. Benjamin, who signed from Arsenal last summer, has enjoyed a superb season at u21 level and makes the step up from the u19 Wales squad.
Goalkeeper Fraser Barnsley has been called up to Northern Ireland u21s for a friendly tournament in Turkey. Barnsley has impressed at u21 for Everton this season and is a regular at u21 level internationally. There is no call up for Braiden Graham but his time with the u21s must surely be approaching.
International u19 call ups
Aled Thomas and George Morgan are included in the Wales u19 squad for their Euro Qualifying Elite Round games vs Portugal, England and Turkey. Thomas has starred for Everton u18s and u21s this season, covering as a left back in the older age group and taking his place in his more usual centre half position for the u18s.
Morgan, who scored for Wales u19s on his injury comeback in November, is fresh off scoring two for Everton u18s in a 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough last week.
International u18 call ups
Everton have a distinct lack of call ups at England youth levels. Eli Campbell, who made his u20 debut last year, is not included this time around and other age groups do not have any England players involved.
The only exception is Harrison Armstrong. The midfielder has been superb for Derby County in the Championship, winning man of the match in his second start at the club and helping the team to two key victories. He is included in the u18 squad that will travel to Portugal to play Czechia, France and hosts Portugal.
Luis Gardner, who played in midfield in the Everton u18s match in the Bramley Moore test event, has been called up for Wales u18s where he will play alongside Zak Jagielka, son of former Everton captain Phil. Wales will play Poland and Denmark in Spain over the international break.
