Central Park in Liverpool's dockland

Work begins on new ‘Central Park’ and riverside walk to Everton’s Bramley Moore Stadium

Stephen Hurrell, January 14, 2025

Work has started on a stunning ‘green’ corridor leading from Liverpool city centre to Everton’s new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.

The work will include a new ‘Central Park’, a riverside walk and cycle path, and interconnected public spaces stretching from the new Isle of Mann cruise terminal to the doors of Everton’s impressive new stadium on the banks of the River Mersey.

Everton’s new stadium sits at the northern end of a huge tract of dockland that is subject to a £5.5bn regeneration plan by owners Peel Waters and the latest move to create a parkland and riverside walk towards the new 52,888-capacity arena will improve access to Evertonians travelling from the city centre on match day.

Peel Waters has announced contractor Graham will undertake work on the land with a view to beginning work in Spring 2025. It will see 2,350 new homes created and a new park installed at the site, all with a clear view of the stadium.

Peel recently tweaked plans for the 60-hectare Liverpool Waters site to better integrate over £1bn of ongoing development to make the stadium more of a focal point. It includes a new hotel, watersports venue, nature areas and homes around Nelson Dock next to Bramley Moore stadium. You can see the Nelson Dock plans here.

Work has not begun on these plans but the new Central Docks plan further towards the city centre is now underway.

Peel Waters says: “With full planning approval for the site preparation work, the comprehensive plans for Central Docks include the creation of an interconnected network of public spaces. The proposed new landscape will be enriched with the planting of hundreds of trees, with the centrepiece being ‘Central Park,’ a sprawling 2.1-hectare oasis, set to become one of the city’s largest urban green spaces.

The plans say the new Central Park’s design will celebrate the site’s industrial heritage and coastal location. It will include wetlands, plantations and open park. It also includes sports and recreational facilities for residents and visitors.

It adds: “The development will also significantly enhance connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, with the ultimate aim of creating seamless open access between the city centre, Princes Dock, Central Docks and Everton’s new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.”

The new park is not the only new development in the area. Bramley Moore will be the epicentre of several new bars and restaurants set to open their doors for the opening game at Bramley Moore Stadium. You can see some of the new pubs around Bramley Moore here.
