A trio of promising Everton youngsters are set to leave the club with one permanent and two loan deals set to be completed, according to reports.
Togo-born Halid Djankpata, who can play for Italy, Togo or Benin, is set to move to Italian Serie B side Spezia despite interest from Bologna. The Italian u19 international, who grew up in Milan and is a big fan of Juventus, captained Everton u21s against Chelsea last week but has found involvement with first team squads limited.
The midfielder was signed by Everton in 2018 after the club beat competition from Manchester City and Liverpool and the club will hopefully insert a sell on clause if he does depart to Italy.
Meanwhile, Jenson Metcalfe is set to sign for Chesterfield on a season long loan, according to Everton insider ‘ElBobble’. The centre midfielder, who can also play on the right wing, has been heavily involved in the first team squad during the summer and played the first half against Sligo Rovers in the club’s first friendly.
He impressed against Preston North End, where his superb through ball created a goal in a 3-0 victory, and has appeared on the first team bench this season too. Everton enjoy a good relationship with newly promoted League Two side Chesterfield after goalkeeper Harry Tyrer’s excellent season at the club last year.
Finally goalkeeper Billy Crellin is set to join Accrington Stanley on loan. The goalkeeper, signed from Swindon, is now 24 and it is unlikely he will break into the Everton first team in the near future. He joins Harry Tyrer (Blackpool) as the second Everton keeper to head out on loan, leaving Georgie Pickford (u21s), Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic as backups to England number one Jordan Pickford.
